Certified Industrial Hygiene Technician
Course Description
The Certified Industrial Hygiene Technician (CIHT) course is designed toprovide participants with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills
necessary to recognize, evaluate, and control occupational health hazards
in the workplace. This intensive two-day program introduces students to
the principles of industrial hygiene, exposure assessment techniques, air
sampling methodologies, personal protective equipment, and the control of
chemical, biological, and physical hazards. Upon successful completion of
the course and examination, participants will possess the foundational
competencies necessary to support occupational health and safety
programs in a variety of industries.
What You'll Learn
- Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- 1. Explain the history and development of Industrial Hygiene and its role in
- protecting workers’ health.
- 2. Define and apply common Industrial Hygiene terminology and concepts.
- 3. Identify the four fundamental principles of Industrial Hygiene: anticipation,
- recognition, evaluation, and control.
- 4. Recognize indoor and outdoor air quality hazards and evaluate their impact on
- worker health.
- 5. Identify and classify airborne contaminants including dusts, fumes, mists, vapors,
- fibers, gases, and smoke.
- 6. Evaluate chemical hazards and understand exposure routes, toxicology
- principles, and regulatory requirements.
- 7. Recognize biological hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
- 8. Select, inspect, and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- for occupational exposures.
- 9. Identify laser hazards and understand applicable safety requirements.
- 10. Conduct basic personal air sampling and exposure monitoring activities.
- 11. Interpret air sampling data and compare results to occupational exposure limits.
- 12. Recommend engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to reduce
- occupational exposures.
- 13. Assist employers in maintaining compliance with OSHA and recognized
- Industrial Hygiene best practices.
- 14. Support workplace health and safety programs through hazard recognition and
- exposure assessment techniques.
