Certified HAZWOPER Training Specialist 24 Hour Course (CHTS - 24HR)

Certified HAZWOPER Training Specialist 24 Hour Course (CHTS - 24HR)

$495.00

Course Description

For cleanup operations, this training applies to all employees who work at the site of an ordered cleanup or who are contracted to clean up a release after a HAZWOPER emergency response involving an OSHA hazardous substance. OSHA hazardous substances include DOT hazardous materials, CERCLA hazardous substances, RCRA hazardous wastes, disease-causing agents, and petroleum products with a flashpoint of 200°F or less.

If it is expected that an employee will not be exposed above the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) or published exposure limits, the training standard under 29 CFR 1910.120(e) allows a reduced initial training requirement of 24 hours instead of the usual 40 hours. This provision ensures appropriate training while accounting for lower exposure risk scenarios.

The IASHEP OSHA 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training is designed for hazardous waste and emergency response workers who must meet the 24-hour HAZWOPER training requirement. The standards under 29 CFR Part 1910.120(e) require employees to complete appropriate HAZWOPER training before entering or beginning work at an uncontrolled hazardous waste operation. This course is suitable for new employees, hazardous materials technicians and specialists, on-scene incident commanders, management, supervisors, and anyone required to fulfill an OSHA 24-hour HAZWOPER requirement.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to recognize and recall OSHA regulations and requirements, demonstrate an understanding of site characterization, and identify principles of toxicology related to chemical exposures. They will also be able to describe hazardous situations involving corrosives, solvents, oxidizers, and reactive chemicals, select appropriate personal protective equipment, recognize work zone characteristics, list elements of site security, understand decontamination principles and levels, and define the purpose of a medical surveillance program.

What You'll Learn

  • Understand OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 requirements for 24-Hour HAZWOPER training and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify hazardous substances, exposure pathways, and appropriate hazard control strategies.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices, use of PPE, and basic emergency response actions for hazardous waste operations.
  • Apply instructional methods and documentation practices for delivering compliant HAZWOPER training.

Who Should Attend

It is also suitable for supervisors, team leads, and emergency response personnel responsible for handling hazardous materials, along with individuals preparing to support or assist in HAZWOPER training activities.
