Certified Petroleum Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist - Servicing & Drilling (PEHSS)
Course Description
The Certified Petroleum Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist – Servicing & Drilling (PEHSS) course is a comprehensive professional certification program designed for safety professionals, drilling supervisors, well servicing personnel, environmental specialists, operations managers, contractors, and employees involved in onshore oil and gas exploration and production. This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to identify workplace hazards, ensure OSHA compliance, and implement effective Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs throughout petroleum drilling and servicing operations.Onshore oil and gas exploration presents numerous high-risk activities, including drilling, well completion, production, pipeline operations, product gathering, processing, and transmission. Workers are routinely exposed to hazardous chemicals, high-pressure systems, heavy equipment, confined spaces, fire and explosion hazards, hazardous energy, vehicle incidents, and environmental risks. This certification prepares participants to recognize these hazards, apply preventive controls, and support safe and compliant petroleum operations.
Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of OSHA regulations applicable to the oil and gas industry, petroleum hazard recognition, drilling rig safety, well servicing operations, environmental protection, hazardous materials management, spill prevention, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, permit-to-work systems, emergency response planning, risk assessment, incident investigation, contractor safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), compliance auditing, and safety leadership. The curriculum also covers pipeline safety, product gathering and processing operations, regulatory reporting, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement strategies for petroleum facilities.
Through practical case studies, real-world drilling scenarios, and hands-on safety concepts, participants will learn how to conduct workplace inspections, identify operational hazards, implement corrective actions, monitor regulatory compliance, investigate incidents, and strengthen environmental and occupational safety performance across all phases of onshore petroleum exploration and production.
Upon successful completion of the Certified Petroleum Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist – Servicing & Drilling (PEHSS) course, participants will possess the skills to support safe drilling and servicing operations, improve OSHA compliance, reduce operational risks, and contribute to environmentally responsible and efficient petroleum production.
